New Year, New Tinctures!

You already know that mushrooms can have powerful effects on the body. Certain mushrooms are considered medicinal because of their beneficial impacts on health. Some of these benefits can be realized simply by eating the mushrooms (either cooked or in a powdered or capsule form). But some of the constituents of mushrooms can only be extracted using an alcohol solvent and/or hot water decoction. A dual-extract tincture is a combination of alcohol and water extractions. We have been making dual-extract tinctures for our own use as long as we’ve been growing mushrooms. We also have been selling tinctures at our farmer’s markets where they are very popular with customers who understand the benefits of mushroom tinctures.

We are excited to announce that we are now partnering with Mindful Mycology in Dawsonville, GA to produce a more concentrated tincture extract. The secret to the more concentrated tincture is that Mindful Mycoology employs a Soxhlet extractor in its process. The Soxhlet extractor as a piece of lab equipment has been around since the 1870s. It is used to efficiently dissolve a larger amount of material into a solvent. In the case of our mushroom tinctures, it is able to more efficiently extract the mushroom components resulting in a more concentrated extraction and consequently a tincture 2-8 times more potent than those made through standard dual-extraction techniques. These tinctures appear almost opaque and I am sure that you will be able to feel the difference in the end product.

We have 2-ounce bottles of lion’s mane, reishi, and turkey tail tinctures available in our online store, for order through Market Wagon, or in-person at the farmer’s market. A 2-ounce bottle will typically last a month with daily use.
